We report from primary sources and aim to get every fact right. When we get something wrong, we fix it openly.

• Material errors are corrected promptly. We publish a correction note here (and, where the error appeared in a sent issue, reference it in a later issue) rather than silently editing the record.

Published corrections

  Issue 8 (18 August 2026) reported UK pump prices as petrol 120.0p and diesel 123.4p a litre. Those are December 2017 figures. Our weekly pull from the DESNZ road fuel price series picked up the archived 2003 to 2017 file after the department changed how it publishes the current series, and nothing in the process caught that the dates were nine years out. The correct figures for the week to 17 August 2026 are petrol 161.1p a litre, down 1.0p on the week, and diesel 181.4p a litre, down 0.6p. The same story described 95.07p for petrol and 97.89p for diesel in September 2005 as the highest recorded in that series. Those are real prices for that week, but they are not the series high: it peaked at 142.17p for petrol and 148.04p for diesel in April 2012. The story and the fuel tracker have been corrected. The weekly pull now chooses the series by its most recent data rather than by filename, and refuses to publish one that is more than three weeks old.
