Privacy policy

We collect as little as possible, we never sell it, and you can leave any time.

Who we are

THRIVE is a weekly UK fleet-intelligence briefing. For any privacy question, contact us at hello@thrivefleet.co.uk. See also our imprint.

What we collect

  • Your email address, when you subscribe. We use it only to send the weekly briefing, occasional service messages about it, and any change alerts you ask for (when a Fleet Rate Card figure changes, or when the price or specification of a van you follow changes). Each alert email has a link that stops that alert and leaves the briefing running.
  • Aggregate, anonymous usage analytics (page views and performance) via Vercel Analytics. This does not use cookies and does not identify you individually. See our cookie policy.
  • Site analytics, only if you accept them in the banner on your first visit. Your browser then keeps a random visitor code, and for each page you view we record the page, the date and time, roughly how long you spent reading it, where your visit came from (for example a search engine, LinkedIn or our newsletter), your type of device (mobile, tablet or desktop) and your country. This tells us whether readers come back and which pages are useful. The code is not your name or email address and we do not store your IP address. We also use Microsoft Clarity, which records how pages are used (clicks, scrolling and page movement, with text you type masked) and sets its own cookies; Microsoft processes this data as described in the Microsoft privacy statement. If you arrive from a link in our newsletter, the visit is linked to your subscription. Records are kept for up to 25 months. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the foot of every page; rejecting removes the visitor code from your browser.
  • Newsletter opens and clicks. Each issue we send you contains a small image and links that tell us when you open the email and which links you follow, recorded against your subscription so we can see which stories are useful and send a better briefing. Some email apps load images automatically, which we try to tell apart from a real open. You can stop this by turning off images in your email app, or by unsubscribing.
  • Download and link records for the Rate Card, the files on our data pages and the links in our newsletter, so we can tell people from automated crawlers and email security scanners. We record: the file or link, the time to the minute, your country, the THRIVE page you came from, the type of browser (for example "Chrome" or "Googlebot", never the full browser string) and a visitor code that lasts one day. The code is made from your IP address and browser with a secret key we replace every day, so it cannot be linked to you, to your IP address or to your visits on other days. No cookies are used, and the records are deleted after 90 days.
  • Messages you send through the contact form: your name, email address, organisation if you give it, your message and any files you attach, with your country and a code made from your IP address with a secret key (to stop abuse; we do not store the address itself). The message and its files are emailed to our newsroom inbox so we can reply. Files are deleted from the website's storage as soon as that email is sent, or after a day if a message is never sent. The record of the message is kept for up to two years.
  • If we have invited you to an interview for “The People Behind the Fleet”. We may contact people who work in UK fleet and transport at the business email address their organisation publishes, to invite them to take part. We keep your name, job title, organisation, business email, where we found it and our notes, on the basis of our legitimate interest in reporting on the industry. We normally use a business address; where we use another address, it is one you have given us or agreed we may use. We do not take photographs from LinkedIn or elsewhere. Our emails about the interview record whether they were opened and which links were clicked, and we record visits to your private interview page and your progress through it, so we know whether our invitation reached you and when to follow up. If you take part, we also keep your answers and any photograph you choose to send, in private storage, and publish them only after you approve the edited interview. If you would rather not hear from us, reply to say so and we will add your address to our do-not-contact list. We keep candidates' details for up to 12 months after we last contacted them. Your rights to access, correct or erase your data, and to complain to the ICO, are set out below.

We do not collect special-category data, and we do not sell or rent your data to anyone.

Advertising

Our news article pages may carry a small number of adverts served by Google, a third-party advertising provider, using Google AdSense. Adverts appear only on individual news article pages - not on the homepage, the news index, or any editorial, legal or subscription page.

Google may use cookies or similar storage to serve and measure these adverts. We ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are set: you can choose personalised adverts (tailored using cookies) or non-personalised adverts (which do not use cookies to build a profile), and you can change your choice at any time - see the cookie policy. THRIVE does not receive, and does not build its own profile from, the data Google uses to personalise adverts. How Google processes this data is described in Google's privacy & terms.

Legal basis (UK GDPR)

We process your email, and the opens and clicks of the newsletter we send you, on the basis of your consent, which you give by subscribing and can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing. Site analytics that keep a visitor code in your browser, and Microsoft Clarity, run only with your consent, given in the banner and withdrawn with “Cookie settings”. The anonymous Vercel Analytics counts and the download records are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding aggregate site usage, using cookieless methods.

Where your data lives

Subscriber details and site analytics are stored in our database (Supabase), the site is hosted on Vercel, and Microsoft Clarity processes usage recordings if you accept analytics. These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and data-processing terms. We keep your email only for as long as you remain subscribed.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to withdraw consent, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). To exercise any of these, email hello@thrivefleet.co.uk or use the unsubscribe link in any issue.

Erasure: to have every record of your email address deleted (not just unsubscribed), email us with the subject “erasure request” from the address concerned. We'll send a one-click verification link; once you confirm, your address is deleted from our subscriber database and mailing system and added to a suppression list so nothing is ever sent to it again. You'll receive a final confirmation when it's done.
