THRIVE verdict

Strong tower, weak carrier: best for businesses needing maximum braked towing over outright payload.

The eTerron 9 Luxury's standout figure is its braked towing capacity of 3,500kg, the highest of any pickup in our database and ahead of the KGM Musso EV's 2,300kg, the Toyota Hilux Icon's 1,600kg and the BYD SHARK's 2,500kg. For operators whose work revolves around trailers, plant or horseboxes, that's a genuine differentiator among electric and hybrid pickups.

Payload tells a different story. At 620kg it sits in the lowest quarter of the 13 pickups we track, well below the class median of 1,050kg and behind the Musso EV's 690kg, the Hilux's 715kg and the SHARK's 790kg. Buyers loading heavy kit alongside a crew of four will find this the binding constraint, not the towing figure.

Charging is reasonably capable, with 11kW AC and 115kW DC peak rates supporting both overnight top-ups and faster stops on the road. The load bed is modest at 1,561mm long and 535mm high, so bulky loads may need careful planning. List price, usable battery and official range aren't yet verified in our data, so a direct cost or range comparison against the Musso EV, Hilux or SHARK isn't possible yet.

Best for

  • Trailer and plant towing operations
  • Fleets prioritising maximum braked towing over payload
  • Businesses needing rapid DC top-ups on the road

Think twice

  • Low payload for a pickup of this class
  • Compact load bed length and height versus some rivals' needs
  • Price, battery and range not yet verified for comparison
