THRIVE verdict

Biggest load space in its class, but range and rapid-charging sit toward the back of the field.

The eDELIVER 5 L2 H2's standout figure is load volume: 8.7m³ is the highest of 63 medium vans THRIVE tracks, well above the 5.8m³ median. Payload is strong too, at 1,265kg, in the highest quarter of the class. For operators who need to fill a van to bursting rather than just carry weight, this is a genuinely useful shape.

Range and charging are the trade-off. 187 miles official range sits in the lowest quarter of 30 electric medium vans, and 70kW peak DC charging is also in the lowest quarter, meaning a 20-80% top-up takes 36 minutes. Braked towing of 1,500kg is below the medium van median of 2,000kg too, so this isn't the van for long multi-drop routes or regular trailer work.

Against rivals, the Ford Transit City Van offers slightly less load volume at 8.5m³ and marginally more payload at 1,275kg for £31,500 ex VAT, while the Farizon V7E trades volume and payload for a longer 204-mile range. The Volkswagen Transporter, a diesel, carries more weight at 1,305kg and tows up to 2,800kg, but with far less load volume at 6.8m³.

Best for

  • Bulky, low-weight loads needing maximum cubic capacity
  • Urban and short-radius delivery work
  • Operators prioritising payload over towing

Think twice

  • Range is in the lowest quarter for electric medium vans
  • Slower peak DC charging than most rivals
  • Towing capacity below the medium van median

What fits in the load area

UK standard pallets (1,200 x 1,000mm)3, in a single row
8 x 4 sheets (2,440 x 1,220mm)Lie flat on the floor, between the wheel arches
Pipe, timber or laddersUp to 3m on the floor

Worked out from the verified floor length 3,042mm, 1,250mm between the wheel arches, 1,675mm high. At the full Euro pallet count, the payload allows about 420kg per pallet. Counts use the width between the wheel arches for the whole floor, so they never over-count. Door openings are not in our data: check the rear and side door apertures before relying on a count. Goods stacked on a pallet can stand up to about 1,525mm tall, allowing 150mm for the pallet itself.

Electric or diesel?

How the Maxus eDELIVER 5 L2 H2 Van 64kWh compares with Renault Trafic Van LL30 Blue dCi 130 Advance Panel Van MY26.5, the closest alternative across the electric line, for a typical working day.

Overnight charging

Electric could work: check the points below

  • Range. 100 miles a day sits comfortably inside a planning range of about 131 miles, so an overnight charge covers the day.
  • Payload. The electric version carries 172kg more (1,265kg against 1,093kg).
  • Towing. Braked towing: 1,500kg electric, 2,500kg diesel.
  • Energy. Charging at a small-business depot costs about 10p a mile against 18.1p for diesel: roughly £2,025 a year less at 25,000 miles.

When the diesel is the more practical choice

  • Towing more than 1,500kg.
How this is worked out
  • Planning range is 70% of the official 187-mile WLTP figure, allowing for winter weather and a full load.
  • Energy use 0.35 kWh a mile: THRIVE's typical figure for an electric van (this van's usable battery is not verified).
  • Diesel 165.48p a litre excluding VAT (DESNZ, week of 2 November 2026); the Renault Trafic Van LL30 Blue dCi 130 Advance Panel Van MY26.5's official 41.5mpg.
  • Electricity: 28.59p/kWh at a small-business depot (DESNZ, excluding VAT), 26.32p at home as the driver pays (Ofgem price cap), 65.83p on public rapid chargers (Zapmap, excluding VAT).
  • 250 working days a year. List prices exclude VAT and options; running costs exclude servicing, insurance, tax and residual values.
