THRIVE verdict
Strong payload and load volume for a medium electric van, let down by slow DC charging and modest towing.
The eDELIVER 5 L2 H1 earns its keep on cargo capacity. A payload of 1,265kg sits in the highest quarter of medium vans, and its 7.5m³ load volume is in the top 10% of the class, so it can carry more weight and bulk than most rivals its size. That combination suits operators who regularly fill both space and scales, rather than just one or the other.
Range of 199 miles is above the medium-electric-van median, giving reasonable reach for local and regional delivery work without constant stops. The compromise is charging: peak DC rate of 70kW is in the lowest quarter of electric medium vans, so topping up on the road takes longer than many competitors, even though a 20-80% charge is quoted at 36 minutes. An 8-year HV battery warranty backs up longer-term ownership.
Against the Farizon V7E (1,208kg payload, 6.95m³, 204 miles) and Ford Transit City Van (1,275kg payload, 8.5m³), the eDELIVER 5 holds its own on payload and beats the Farizon on volume, though the Ford edges ahead on both metrics. The Volkswagen Transporter diesel carries more (1,305kg) and tows considerably more (2,800kg) if towing is a priority, at a higher list price.
Best for
- Operators needing high payload and volume together
- Local and regional delivery rounds within a 199-mile range
- Fleets valuing long battery warranty cover
Think twice
- Towing capacity of 1,500kg is below the class median
- Slow peak DC charging versus most electric rivals
- Check load width between arches (1,250mm) for pallet work

What fits in the load area
| Euro pallets (1,200 x 800mm) | 3, in a single row |
|---|---|
| UK standard pallets (1,200 x 1,000mm) | 3, in a single row |
| 8 x 4 sheets (2,440 x 1,220mm) | Lie flat on the floor, between the wheel arches |
| Pipe, timber or ladders | Up to 3m on the floor |
Worked out from the verified floor length 3,042mm, 1,250mm between the wheel arches, 1,455mm high. At the full Euro pallet count, the payload allows about 420kg per pallet. Counts use the width between the wheel arches for the whole floor, so they never over-count. Door openings are not in our data: check the rear and side door apertures before relying on a count. Goods stacked on a pallet can stand up to about 1,305mm tall, allowing 150mm for the pallet itself.
Electric or diesel?
How the Maxus eDELIVER 5 L2 H1 Van 64kWh compares with Volkswagen Transporter T32 Panel Van Commerce LWB 150PS 2.0 TDI 8-Speed Automatic, the closest alternative across the electric line, for a typical working day.
Electric could work: check the points below
- Range. 100 miles a day sits comfortably inside a planning range of about 139 miles, so an overnight charge covers the day.
- Payload. The electric version carries 40kg less (1,265kg against 1,305kg).
- Towing. Braked towing: 1,500kg electric, 2,800kg diesel.
- Energy. Charging at a small-business depot costs about 10p a mile against 22.4p for diesel: roughly £3,100 a year less at 25,000 miles.
When the diesel is the more practical choice
- Towing more than 1,500kg.
How this is worked out
- Planning range is 70% of the official 199-mile WLTP figure, allowing for winter weather and a full load.
- Energy use 0.35 kWh a mile: THRIVE's typical figure for an electric van (this van's usable battery is not verified).
- Diesel 165.48p a litre excluding VAT (DESNZ, week of 2 November 2026); the Volkswagen Transporter T32 Panel Van Commerce LWB 150PS 2.0 TDI 8-Speed Automatic's official 33.6mpg.
- Electricity: 28.59p/kWh at a small-business depot (DESNZ, excluding VAT), 26.32p at home as the driver pays (Ofgem price cap), 65.83p on public rapid chargers (Zapmap, excluding VAT).
- 250 working days a year. List prices exclude VAT and options; running costs exclude servicing, insurance, tax and residual values.
