SMMT profiles four UK fleets cutting admin with digital fleet management software
From a specialist vet fleet chasing DVSA Earned Recognition to a decorator chain rolling out route optimisation nationwide, SMMT's latest case studies show how transport management systems and driver apps are replacing paperwork across very different operations.
SMMT has published a feature detailing how four UK fleet operators, Vetspeed, DAW Logistics, The Truck Doctor and Brewers Decorator Centres, have adopted digital fleet management systems to streamline operations and cut paperwork.
Vetspeed, which runs specialist businesses including pet cremation and waste management services, is expanding its use of AssetGo fleet management software to cover about 100 vehicles across five sites. The company introduced the system in 2023 to replace paper-based processes, and is now using AssetGo's Earned Recognition dashboard as it prepares to apply for DVSA Earned Recognition in early 2027. Group Transport Manager Justin Waite said the software "has enabled us to ensure daily defect checks are being completed consistently and has improved our ability to monitor vehicle-off-road time."
DAW Logistics has streamlined its operations over the past three years after adopting the Mandata transport management system and driver apps, including the Manifest app, which gives real-time job progress, automatic proof-of-delivery uploads and instant customer updates. The company estimates the system saves about 45 minutes a day on planning, and says a weekly documentation task that used to take administrators from 7am to noon every Monday now takes eight minutes.
The Truck Doctor, an independent commercial vehicle repairer running a five-bay workshop in Leicestershire since 2010, has linked Tranzaura Group's Truckfile Workshop Management system to Sage Accounting software to automate invoicing, importing job and parts data directly into the invoicing system.
Brewers Decorator Centres, which operates more than 200 stores across England and a fleet of more than 150 vehicles ranging from 7.5-tonne trucks to smaller vans, is rolling out the Podfather planning, route optimisation and electronic proof-of-delivery solution across its nationwide network of sites. Once completed, the project is expected to give the company access to detailed KPI and management reports covering vehicle utilisation, customer experience, costs and emissions.
