Electric cars for fleets

Which electric car suits a fleet comes down to three things: price against the salary-sacrifice and company-car tax sweet spot, real-world range on a stated test cycle, and charging speed. A widening band of models now sits under £25,000 to £30,000. Dacia's Spring starts at £11,990, on sale as the cheapest new EV in the UK, while Volkswagen's ID.Polo starts at £23,945 with a WLTP range of up to 281 miles. Manufacturer range figures hold only on the stated test cycle; where a source gives no test cycle, treat the number as unproven.

Government support for new EVs runs through the Electric Car Grant, administered by the Department for Transport and OZEV since 16 July 2025: up to £3,750 off Band 1 cars and £1,500 off Band 2, on models priced at £37,000 or under that meet emissions, range, warranty and sustainability criteria. Grant bands move: Hyundai's Kona Electric was upgraded from Band 2 to the full £3,750 on 28 July 2026, cutting its on-the-road price from £35,000 to £31,250. Not every discount advertised as a grant is the government's, so check a model against the official eligible list.
