Kona Electric jumps to full £3,750 grant after supply chain review

Hyundai's Kona Electric has moved up to the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant, having previously qualified only for the £1,500 Band 2 rate - a jump worth an extra £2,250 off the list price for anyone speccing one now, according to Hyundai. That takes the entry price from £35,000 down to £31,250 before any finance offers.

The upgrade followed a review of the Kona Electric's supply chain and manufacturing credentials, run under OZEV's Electric Car Grant scheme, which hands out point-of-sale discounts on eligible new EVs. Hyundai says the car is also still available with 0% APR finance, and the model line now offers a 48.4kWh standard range version and a 65.4kWh long range variant with WLTP range up to 319 miles.

Why this matters: grant bands can move both ways as manufacturers' supply chains get rereviewed, so don't assume last quarter's ECG rate still applies when running EV total cost of ownership comparisons. Anyone with a Kona Electric order pending should check whether the higher grant applies retrospectively before signing off on pricing.
