THRIVE verdict
A practical crew van with strong payload and towing, but one of the smaller load bays in its class.
This FlexCab is built for jobs needing people and kit together. Payload of 790kg sits above the median for small vans, and braked towing of 1,400kg is also above the class median — useful for trailers or heavier site loads. The 2.0L EcoBlue returns 50mpg, above the median for diesel small vans, so it's a reasonably efficient way to combine crew space with real carrying capacity.
Load volume is the compromise: 3.1m³ sits in the lowest quarter of small vans tested, so this is not the van for bulky cargo. The Volkswagen Caddy matches that same 3.1m³ but undercuts it on price at £26,145. The Renault Kangoo offers more volume at 3.3m³ and a higher payload of 836kg for less money. The Citroën ë-Berlingo electric also beats it on volume at 3.3m³, though its 750kg towing capacity is lower.
At £28,600 this sits exactly at the median price for small vans, so it's neither a bargain nor overpriced for the segment. Ford also offers the same FlexCab body as a PHEV at £33,650, but that version carries a notably lower payload of 637kg — worth weighing if maximum load-carrying matters more than powertrain choice.
Best for
- Crew transport needing decent payload
- Trailer or heavier towing work
- Fleets wanting above-average diesel economy
Think twice
- Load volume is small for the class
- Caddy or Kangoo may offer more space or payload for less
- PHEV version of same body loses payload
