THRIVE verdict
Strong load volume and fast charging, but payload and range sit in the bottom quarter of the class at a premium price.
The eVito's cabin figures tell a mixed story. At 6 cubic metres its load volume is above the medium van median, and the floor will take three Euro pallets or an 8x4 sheet flat between the arches, so it's genuinely practical for bulky, panel-type loads. But payload is only 793kg, in the lowest quarter of the class, well below the 1,178kg median — a real constraint if you're carrying dense materials rather than bulky ones.
On range this is not a long-haul van: 159 miles official is in the lowest quarter of electric medium vans, with a 60kWh usable battery also in the bottom quarter. DC charging peaks at 80kW, again below the class median, though a 35-minute 10-80% top-up is workable for depot-based or multi-drop routes with charging breaks built in. It carries an 8-year battery warranty, which helps reassure on degradation over a typical fleet life.
At £48,775 before VAT it's in the top quarter of medium van pricing, and notably dearer than the Ford E-Transit Custom Trend (£43,630, 1,046kg payload, 230 miles) and Volkswagen e-Transporter (£42,260, 1,076kg payload, 225 miles), both of which also tow 2,300kg where the eVito has no braked towing capacity at all. Against a diesel like the Renault Trafic SL30 at £30,300, the price gap is substantial and best judged against separate running-cost figures.
Best for
- Bulky, lightweight loads needing volume over weight
- Urban and multi-drop routes with charging stops built in
- Fleets wanting flat 8x4 sheet or pallet capacity
Think twice
- Payload well below class median — check against typical loads
- Range and battery size both in the bottom quarter for electric medium vans
- No braked towing capacity, unlike rival EVs offering 2,300kg

What fits in the load area
| Euro pallets (1,200 x 800mm) | 3, in a single row |
|---|---|
| UK standard pallets (1,200 x 1,000mm) | 2, in a single row |
| 8 x 4 sheets (2,440 x 1,220mm) | Lie flat on the floor, between the wheel arches |
| Pipe, timber or ladders | Up to 2.8m on the floor |
Worked out from the verified floor length 2,831mm, 1,270mm between the wheel arches, 1,392mm high. At the full Euro pallet count, the payload allows about 260kg per pallet. Counts use the width between the wheel arches for the whole floor, so they never over-count. Door openings are not in our data: check the rear and side door apertures before relying on a count. Goods stacked on a pallet can stand up to about 1,242mm tall, allowing 150mm for the pallet itself.
Electric or diesel?
How the Mercedes-Benz eVito Panel Van eVito Van PRO L2 (60kWh, 116PS/85kW, FWD) compares with Renault Trafic Van SL30 Blue dCi 130 Advance Panel Van MY26.5, the closest alternative across the electric line, for a typical working day.
Workable, with planning
- Range. 100 miles a day is close to a planning range of about 111 miles: workable, but cold or heavily loaded days may need a top-up.
- Payload. The electric version carries 273kg less (793kg against 1,066kg).
- Towing. Braked towing: 0kg electric, 2,500kg diesel.
- Energy. Charging at a small-business depot costs about 10.8p a mile against 17.8p for diesel: roughly £1,750 a year less at 25,000 miles.
- Price. The electric version lists for £13,475 more after the £5,000 zero emission van and truck grant, which the energy saving covers in about 7.7 years.
When the diesel is the more practical choice
- Loads that use the last 273kg of the diesel's payload.
- Any towing: the electric version is not rated to tow.
- A short holding period: the electric price premium takes longer than six years to recover at this mileage.
How this is worked out
- Planning range is 70% of the official 159-mile WLTP figure, allowing for winter weather and a full load.
- Energy use 0.377 kWh a mile: the usable battery divided by the official range.
- Diesel 165.48p a litre excluding VAT (DESNZ, week of 2 November 2026); the Renault Trafic Van SL30 Blue dCi 130 Advance Panel Van MY26.5's official 42.2mpg.
- Electricity: 28.59p/kWh at a small-business depot (DESNZ, excluding VAT), 26.32p at home as the driver pays (Ofgem price cap), 65.83p on public rapid chargers (Zapmap, excluding VAT).
- 250 working days a year. List prices exclude VAT and options; running costs exclude servicing, insurance, tax and residual values.
