MAN's MCS eTrucks reach series production, with GB among first delivery markets

MAN has started series production of MCS-ready electric trucks at its Munich plant, and Great Britain is on the first delivery list alongside Germany, the Netherlands and six other European markets, according to MAN Truck & Bus. For UK long-haul operators still nervous about depot dwell time, that's the headline: this is no longer a demo vehicle.

The Megawatt Charging System pushes capacity to 750 kW, against 375 kW on today's CCS-equipped MAN eTrucks, and runs at up to 1,000 amps and 750 volts. MAN says a six-battery eTGX or eTGS (534 kWh) goes from 20 to 80% state of charge in under 30 minutes, with a seven-battery chassis variant (623 kWh) taking under 40 minutes. The claimed payoff is daily ranges beyond 1,000 km within the same working time as a diesel truck, based on up to 570 km between charging stops in a typical long-haul tractor-semitrailer configuration, though MAN doesn't spell out what that means on a UK trunk route. MAN calls itself the first European manufacturer to bring MCS into practical operation, and its Transport Solutions arm now factors MCS site availability into route-planning consultancy.

Why this matters: the trucks exist; the charging infrastructure to feed them at 750 kW largely doesn't yet, in the UK or most of Europe. Operators eyeing eTGX or eTGS for long-haul work should treat MCS rollout timelines, not battery specs, as the real constraint on route planning and depot investment.
