BYD confirms Shark PHEV pick-up on sale in select European markets within three months
Shown at the Paris Motor Show after an appearance at Goodwood, the BYD Shark will reach 'select markets' within three months and a wider European rollout during the first half of 2027, as BYD lines it up against the Ford Ranger PHEV.

The BYD Shark has made its EU debut at the Paris Motor Show, following an appearance at the UK's Goodwood Festival of Speed this year, Auto Express reports.
Coinciding with the Paris show appearance, BYD confirmed the pick-up will go on sale in 'select markets' within the next three months, with a 'wider rollout' during the first half of 2027.
In the UK, the BYD Shark plug-in hybrid pick-up is available in one high-specification variant priced at £47,290, sitting just above the entry-level Ford Ranger PHEV with VAT applied. However, business owners cannot reclaim VAT on the Shark, unlike with most of its more traditional rivals.
That is because of capacity: the Shark can tow 2,500kg and carry a 790kg payload, against 3,500kg towing and a 1,000kg payload for the Ford Ranger PHEV.
The Shark uses BYD's DMO (Dual Mode Off-Road) plug-in hybrid system, pairing a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors for a claimed 435bhp, 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds and up to 55 miles of pure-electric range from a 29.58kWh battery. BYD says DC fast charging tops out at 55kW, recharging the battery from 30 to 80 per cent in 21 minutes. By comparison, the Ford Ranger PHEV delivers 275bhp and 27 miles of EV range.
Speaking to Auto Express in 2025, BYD's UK deputy country manager Steve Beattie said he believed the Shark would appeal to Ford Ranger diesel drivers now that double-cab pick-up drivers must move to plug-in hybrid or electric vehicles.
