RHA launches Wellbeing Charter in Scotland at Holyrood
Haulage, coach and van businesses in Scotland are being asked to pledge support for the Road Haulage Association's 10-year wellbeing commitment, which covers drivers, technicians, planners, office teams and business leaders.

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has launched its Wellbeing Charter in Scotland with an event at Holyrood in Edinburgh, Van Fleet World reported on 5 November. The roundtable and drop-in session brought together MSPs and RHA members. The association called on businesses across the road transport sector to pledge their support for a healthier, more resilient workforce.
The charter was first launched in London on 15 July, followed by Northern Ireland in October. The RHA describes it as a 10-year commitment to improving wellbeing across the haulage, coach and van sectors, with an ambition to deliver one million moments of improvement. It is intended to support everyone working in road transport, from drivers and technicians to planners, office teams and business leaders.
The charter is built around six pillars: learning and development, mental wellbeing, leadership and resilience, connecting with others, exercise and physical activity, and food and nutrition.
RHA managing director Richard Smith said: "Road transport depends on people. Whether they are behind the wheel, working in a workshop, planning deliveries or supporting customers, their wellbeing matters." He added: "Bringing the charter to Holyrood is an opportunity for operators and policymakers to discuss how we can support the people who keep Scotland moving and turn that commitment into practical action."
Smith also linked the charter to recruitment and retention: "Small changes can make a real difference to people’s working lives and help businesses attract and retain the people they need. I’d encourage businesses across Scotland to make their pledge and join us in building a healthier, more resilient industry."
The Scotland launch is part of the charter's engagement across all four UK nations, with a further launch planned in Wales on 2 December.
