Volvo confirms 13 new cars as it resets electrification strategy

Volvo Cars said on 17 September that it plans to roll out 13 new electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2030 according to Electrek. The strategy update was announced in Stockholm on 17 September, TechTorqueMedia reported.
The company said seven of the vehicles will be tailored for Western markets, including the US and Europe, while six are designed specifically for China. Western market cars will use Volvo's HuginCore computing platform and SPA2 and SPA3 architectures, while China-specific models will draw on Geely's shared platforms and a dedicated tech stack, according to TechTorqueMedia.
Volvo said the range will mix fully electric vehicles with third-generation hybrids, with an ambition for 90 to 100 per cent of global sales to be electrified by 2030. Production of new XC60 and XC90 plug-in hybrids is due to begin in autumn 2026, and a new design show car concept is to be previewed in spring 2027 for the brand's 100th anniversary.
Volvo Cars president and chief executive Håkan Samuelsson said showrooms will look very different in 2030.
