EVs “travel four times further” that petrol for same cost
Petrol at 160p a litre buys you 47 miles and a long walk. Andersen EV's Lincoln-to-Exeter test pitted a Renault 5 E-Tech against a petrol Citroën C3, both running on £5 worth of fuel.
According to Andersen, the C3 burned through 2.48 litres of fuel and stalled at 47 miles, while the Renault 5 completed the full 200-mile route and still had range in hand when it passed the stranded petrol car. Andersen points to the RAC's figures showing average UK petrol prices at their highest since November 2022, up more than 9p in July alone, as the driver behind the widening gap. CEO David Martell argues that home charging on the right tariff turns volatile pump prices into something closer to a fixed, predictable cost line, per Andersen EV.
Why this matters: for fleets still running whole-life cost models on last year's fuel assumptions, this is a prompt to rebase them against current pump prices and home charging tariffs rather than list price alone, especially for high-mileage drivers where the per-mile gap compounds fastest.
