A Surrey-based outfit has just picked up a rather larger prize than the average UK tech award: Toyota GB confirms BetterPoints is a winner in the Toyota Mobility Foundation's Global Sustainable Cities Challenge, alongside Barcelona's Factual Consulting and OpenMove. It is a niche story, but it points at where behaviour-change tech is heading, and fleets running mixed-mode or last-mile operations should be watching.

BetterPoints' Bella Mossa app rewards Venice residents for sustainable travel choices using more than 40 techniques, from gamification to local incentives. Over the campaign period from October 2025 to February 2026, it is targeting 45,000 replaced car journeys and almost 1,000 miles of cycling from people who don't normally cycle. Factual Consulting's Andemo platform, the parallel winning entry, notched 1,750 downloads with 87% of users opening it three times a day on average. Each winner already banked $180,000 in implementation funding and now gets a further $500,000 to scale their own pilot city.

Why this matters: this is a live-city pilot testing whether behavioural-reward tech can shift real journey volumes, not a lab study. UK operators building modal-shift or corporate travel-plan incentives, particularly those chasing Scope 3 reductions, should note the mechanics behind the 45,000-journey target before they get pitched a UK version.
