VW ID. Buzz Cargo LWB launches with 4.4m3 capacity, 1,800kg towing
The long-wheelbase electric van is open to order in Germany now, with sideways Euro pallet loading and a second sliding door as standard, but UK order books won't open until early 2027.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has launched the ID. Buzz Cargo Long Wheelbase, an extended version of its electric van now available to order in Germany, with UK orders following in early 2027, Fleet World reports.
The LWB stretches the cargo area by 250mm to a total interior length of 2,458mm, taking overall cargo volume up 0.5m3 to 4.4m3 compared with the standard wheelbase model. Volkswagen also says the LWB delivers an increased towing capacity of up to 1,800kg braked on 8% and 12% gradients.
Unlike the standard ID. Buzz Cargo, the LWB comes with a second sliding door as standard, 19cm wider than the standard model's side door, which Volkswagen says allows a standard Euro pallet to be loaded sideways. The van also gets a wooden floor as standard.
Maximum payload depends on drive system, at up to 700kg for the rear-wheel-drive version or 606kg for all-wheel-drive, according to Volkswagen.
A new software generation also brings vehicle-to-load capability to the ID. Buzz Cargo, letting drivers power heavy-duty external tools such as circular saws directly from the 86kWh battery. Using a PowerSocket adapter plugged into the charging port, Volkswagen says it can deliver up to 3.0kW of continuous power (3.6kW peak) via a standard domestic Schuko plug or a CEE 230V camping socket.
In Germany, pre-sales are open now, with the all-wheel-drive 4Motion variant starting at €50,630 net and the rear-wheel-drive version arriving at the start of October from €48,490 net. Volkswagen says the LWB carries a premium of around €2,340 (c.£2,000) over the standard-length model.
UK buyers can expect order books to open in early 2027, ahead of a spring market introduction.
