THRIVE verdict
A crew van built for carrying a team and kit, but payload and volume trail the class, and it costs more.
This is the crew-van version of the Transit 350L LWB, aimed at businesses that need to move a team and their gear together. It can fit three Euro pallets or a UK pallet pair, take 8x4 sheets flat between the arches, and carry pipe or timber up to 2.4m. Braked towing of 2,600kg is above the median for large vans, useful if a trailer is part of the job.
Payload sits at 1,194kg, below the class median of 1,260kg, and load volume of 8.43m³ falls in the lowest quarter of large vans. Against named rivals, it narrowly beats the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 315 on payload (1,194kg vs 1,164kg) but the Sprinter carries more volume at 10.5m³. The Volkswagen Crafter Commerce also out-volumes it at 10.7m³, with a lower price of £41,285. At £54,685, this Transit sits in the highest price quarter for the class.
Fuel economy of 31mpg beats the diesel median of 30.4mpg, a point in its favour for a crew van this size. The same body is offered as the E-Transit DCiV Trend, which after the Zero Emission Van Grant lists £2,100 cheaper and carries more payload, though whether electric or diesel costs less to run depends on mileage and where it charges.
Best for
- Crews needing seats and load space together
- Jobs needing sheet materials or long loads
- Towing trailers or plant
Think twice
- Payload below the large-van median
- Load volume in the lowest quarter for the class
- Priced in the top quarter of large vans

What fits in the load area
| Euro pallets (1,200 x 800mm) | 3, in a single row |
|---|---|
| UK standard pallets (1,200 x 1,000mm) | 2, in a single row |
| 8 x 4 sheets (2,440 x 1,220mm) | Lie flat on the floor, between the wheel arches |
| Pipe, timber or ladders | Up to 2.4m on the floor |
Worked out from the verified floor length 2,488mm, 1,392mm between the wheel arches, 2,055mm high. At the full Euro pallet count, the payload allows about 390kg per pallet. Counts use the width between the wheel arches for the whole floor, so they never over-count. Door openings are not in our data: check the rear and side door apertures before relying on a count. Goods stacked on a pallet can stand up to about 1,905mm tall, allowing 150mm for the pallet itself.
Could you go electric?
How this van compares with Ford E-Transit DCiV Trend 425L LWB / L3 H3 Standard Range 68kWh 135kW/184PS RWD, the same body with the other powertrain, for a typical working day.
Workable, with planning
- Range. 100 miles a day is close to a planning range of about 121 miles: workable, but cold or heavily loaded days may need a top-up.
- Payload. The electric version carries 250kg more (1,444kg against 1,194kg).
- Energy. Charging at a small-business depot costs about 11.2p a mile against 24.3p for diesel: roughly £3,275 a year less at 25,000 miles.
- Price. The electric version lists for no more than the diesel after the £5,000 zero emission van and truck grant.
How this is worked out
- Planning range is 70% of the official 173-mile WLTP figure, allowing for winter weather and a full load.
- Energy use 0.393 kWh a mile: the usable battery divided by the official range.
- Diesel 165.48p a litre excluding VAT (DESNZ, week of 2 November 2026); the Ford Transit DCiV Trend 350L LWB / L3 H3 2.0L EcoBlue 130PS 6-speed manual FWD's official 31mpg.
- Electricity: 28.59p/kWh at a small-business depot (DESNZ, excluding VAT), 26.32p at home as the driver pays (Ofgem price cap), 65.83p on public rapid chargers (Zapmap, excluding VAT).
- 250 working days a year. List prices exclude VAT and options; running costs exclude servicing, insurance, tax and residual values.
