MAN makes TGE van digital services free for at least ten years

Since September, MAN TGE online functions, map updates and the previously chargeable EfficientRoute traffic and route-planning package have been included without subscription fees under MAN's Lifetime Connectivity scheme. MAN Truck & Bus has made all digital services in the MAN TGE van free of charge under a scheme it calls Lifetime Connectivity. In a release published on its UK newsroom on 22 October, the company said that since September all digital services in the van, including online functions and map updates, have been included for at least ten years without additional costs or subscription fees.

MAN says the included services cover over-the-air updates, news and weather applications, and the digital owner's manual. Its MAN EfficientRoute package, which was previously chargeable, has also been part of the free MAN Connect basic services since September. It provides online traffic information, route planning and points of interest, and requires MAN Media Van Navigation or Media Van Navigation Business to be installed in the vehicle. Online map updates are also free. Secondary users and motorhome customers also gain continuous access to navigation services.

To use all the new features, drivers need the new MAN ID. MAN is introducing it in the TGE for the first time as the central access point to its redesigned digital services, linking personal settings to a user profile. With MAN ID, the free services extend to MAN Connect Streaming & Remote services. These include the online voice assistant IDA (ChatGPT), web radio including data volume, Spotify (which requires a separate subscription) and the functions of the new MAN TGE Connect App.

MAN says the smartphone app shows vehicle status, including fuel level, door and window status and maintenance needs, and lets the van be locked and unlocked remotely. Before setting off, drivers can also use it to control the ventilation and, depending on specification, the auxiliary heater. MAN says the app's location tracking, digital service notifications and automated condition reports increase operational transparency and help prevent unplanned downtime, and that fleet operators can locate vehicles more quickly.

The app will roll out in stages. Selected customers will test it in the fourth quarter of 2026, it goes live in the German pilot market in the first quarter of 2027, and a gradual rollout across Europe is planned for 2027. The release does not give a separate UK date.

The release also does not say whether Lifetime Connectivity applies to TGE vans already in service or only to vehicles built or ordered since September.
